Great place! Summit trail, and swamp trail are decent. The ghost lake trail. You better be prepared to come back the same way you went. It's a tough one
Beautiful scenery! Took 3 hikes...orchard trail, ghost lake trail and summit/swamp trail. Ghost lake was steep but nice. Summit, not far from campsite, great vistas. Bathrooms had composting toilets but no smell. Hot showers! We loved it, even 29' one night!
Shelters are open for camping all year long. We stayed 2 nights there during Thanksgiving this year. Shelter was clean. Since the temperature was around 32-26 degrees Fahrenheit, we used the fireplace, and did not feel the cold. We stayed inside without jacket. There was a cleaning bucket with brush to clean the furnace. Restrooms were clean. We enjoyed the jungle ambience.
I was going through so much anxiety and sadness I needed to get away from everything and everyone. I needed to refind myself because I felt like I was loosing myself. I got a sheltee for 2 night for God, myself and my mind no phone no music just nature vice. Went on every trails just kept walking till I found myself. When Eva you need time for you, or for couple, or family come visit us I promise you won't regret.
We love it here. Went with our children many years ago and returned recently for a couple of nights in a shelter for the first time. The staff is very helpful, (Dale was very friendly and shared a lot of interesting facts about the park and surrounding area). The bathrooms are very well maintained and clean. Suggest if you want to buy firewood, arrive before the office is closed. But, there is fire wood for sale down the road if you need to purchase some. If you have children, there is also the Land of Make Believe amusement park nearby. But the best part is the natural beauty of the park and the friendly staff.
Definitely a great experience.
This was our first time visiting this state park, my sister and the rest of my family have visited this park numerous times and kind of this will be the annual family trip dessicated place to be.
This state park offer you different rentals from cabins to lots where you can put your tent.
The views on the different trails are amazing, just being out in contact with nature it's a game changer for your inner peace and mind set.
Looking forward to next year
We took our scouts on a very rainy weekend. They still had a blast. Asked to come back. Cleanest pit toilets I have ever seen. The park staff was super friendly. They also enjoyed the observatory program even if they couldn't stargaze.
Nice place for hiking through the forest, amid the large boulders, and around/across Ghost Lake. We hiked on a day when it was mostly cloudy with intermittent sprinkles, but still enjoyed it. There was nothing too challenging on the Ghost Lake Trail, not from there to the summit. Going to the Faery Cave was a neat side jaunt.
